As wedding photographers in Boise and Chicago, we love spending some time at the end of each year reflecting on the year passed and looking forward to the new year to come. Each year I click through the wedding photos of our beloved couples, and click through each engagement session. This year as I chose wedding and engagement photos to use in our updated portfolio, I was surprised by how many black and white photos made the cut.
In our work with couples, we do not deliver every image we take in black and white in addition to color. There are some images that were just meant for black and white, a classic way to showcase a moment and preserve it for years to come.
I love the way black and white engagement and wedding photos clear color distractions, feature the light, and focus on the moment captured. As a wedding photographer, when the weddings we photograph have crisp white and deep black tones, they scream black and white to me. (That's one of the reasons we love a black suit!) This year, I'm excited to share some of our favorite engagement and wedding photos with you, the ones that were meant for black and white.
Without further ado, our favorite black and white photos from 2021...

Wedding photography is my heartbeat. I love capturing the interactions between the bride and her tribe as they get ready together, the look on a groom’s face when he FINALLY sees his bride for the first time, and the way a dad wraps his arms around his baby girl on her wedding day. Bride and groom portraits make my heart jump and I cry on almost every wedding day.
