Rain was falling lightly as we pulled up to the getting ready suite at The Pavilion at Sandy Pines. Jessica was getting the finishing touches of her makeup done while Matt had just arrived.
If we could give couples one piece of advice for their wedding day, it would always be to let yourself be present—in the moment. Let yourself feel each emotion that rises up within you. Let yourself pause and look around. Give hugs. Let yourself cry. Tell your loved ones what they mean to you.
Matt and Jessica's wedding day was marked by this kind of presence.
Our favorite moments on their wedding day were the ones where they wore their hearts on their sleeves: when Jessica saw her makeup in the mirror for the first time and her face lit up before her eyes welled up with tears; when Matt lost it while opening the music box Jessica gave him and it began to play; the hugs and tears with her mom and matron of honor as Jessica put on her dress and saw herself as a bride on her wedding day; the love and gratitude Jessica expressed as she talked with her friend and bridesmaid, Grace, on video chat; the way Jessica and Matt embraced during their first look; the tears that fell as Jessica walked down the aisle toward Matt. Jessica and Matt have this beautiful ability to laugh and keep things fun while also living with deep intentionality, knowing that their words and actions have influence.
As their friends and family talked about their relationship during their toasts, we could see the love they had for Jessica and Matt. Her grandpa talked about seeing their relationship, now marriage, rooted in Christ. Her dad shared his favorite memories of Jessica's childhood, bringing the whole room to tears as he talked about helping her buy her first home and realizing she wouldn't be coming home to his anymore. As the light faded and the reception went on, Jessica and Matt could be found deep in conversation with the people who came to share in the celebration of their wedding day.
Jessica and Matt, your images are full of the joy of your day and we were so honored to be there to photograph it. Hugs to you as you begin the adventure of marriage! Love, Becky & Kaleb.
Wedding photography is my heartbeat. I love capturing the interactions between the bride and her tribe as they get ready together, the look on a groom’s face when he FINALLY sees his bride for the first time, and the way a dad wraps his arms around his baby girl on her wedding day. Bride and groom portraits make my heart jump and I cry on almost every wedding day.
